The exhibition “Les dones a la indústria ceràmica de Manises” (Women in the ceramic industry of Manises) will be inaugurated in the first days of September.
The exhibition will be held at the Museu Comarcal de l’Horta Sud Josep Ferrís March, located in the municipality of Torrent.
This exhibition will be part of the cycle “20 years, 20 towns”, which aims to show the heritage of all the municipalities that are part of the Horta Sud region, taking advantage of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the entity.
The participation of women in the production of ceramics in Manises is supposed to have been present since its origins, but it is not until the 19th century that there is explicit documentation on the subject. Her most appreciated work within the production system of the earthenware workshops and factories was that carried out by brush and freehand, but she also played an important role in the decoration of tiles by the system of climbing and piping. Today, some women are also recognised for their skill in the plastic production of flowers, both in earthenware and porcelain.
In the exhibition we can see photographs of high documentary value that reflect the importance and presence of women in the ceramic history of Manises, as well as the documentary film “Reflejos de Manises” (Reflections of Manises), dating from the 1940s.
The museum is located at Calle Mare de Déu de l’Olivar, 30 – Torrent (Valencia).
