In Manises, we celebrate, for the second year in a row, our anniversary as a UNESCO Creative City, rejoicing in the fact that on November 8, 2021, it was declared the first and only city in Spain with this distinction in the category of Crafts and Folk Art.
To commemorate this event, we will have a schedule of activities and events that highlight the importance of ceramics.
Exhibition “El Fantástico Mundo del Figurado de Barcelos
On November 10, 2023, the inauguration of “El Fantástico Mundo del Figurado de Barcelos” will take place, available until January 25, 2024, at the MUMAF Exhibition Hall. The exhibition presents craft pieces made of clay, materialized in figures that reflect oral traditions, collective memory, and the cultural heritage of the inhabitants of Barcelos. The production of clay figures is part of the tradition and identity of the Barcelos territory, which became a certified craft product in 2008 and was awarded the European Union trademark in 2021. Since 2017, Barcelos has also been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the Crafts and Folk Art category. “Like Manises, Barcelos has a great history around the art of ceramics, and thanks to this network, we have built very close ties between our two cities,” emphasizes Javier Mansilla Bermejo, Mayor of Manises.
