SUMMARY:Handcrafted Ceramic Nativity Scene
DESCRIPTION:On 17 December 2020 and after many months of work\, artist Antonio Cordero Herrera donated a handcrafted ceramic nativity scene to Manises City Hall and the official presentation ceremony took place. \nCeramic artist Antonio Cordero Herrera made a handcrafted ceramic nativity scene exclusively for Manises City Hall. In it\, you will find typical scenes from a traditional Christmas crib such as: the Annunciation\, the Magi\, the shepherds adoring the child and the crib\, among others.\nAntonio Cordero took several months to complete the work\, in which he sculpted\, cooked and painted in the traditional way each and every one of the one hundred and forty four pieces making up this crib. \nSetting up the crib is a painstaking task as\, due to their great fragility\, each piece is packed individually to prevent breakages. Consequently\, each piece must be unwrapped\, and extreme care must be taken when setting up each scene. \nThus\, with this donation by Antonio Cordero\, the city of Manises can display its new ceramic Nativity scene every Christmas and it is sure to delight all those who decide to come and see it.

SUMMARY:Exhibition of Artisans taking part in the “FESTA DE LA CERÀMICA”
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is one of the most popular activities with the public\, amateurs and professionals alike. Here you are given the opportunity to appreciate an excellent array of artisan ceramics\, where different authors\, styles and techniques are perfectly combined. \nThe exhibition is held in the MUMAF exhibition hall and runs from mid-July to the end of August. The participation rate varies in each edition\, but it is always high\, attracting approximately thirty craftspeople who are not only local artists but come from all over Spain and abroad\, in order to exhibit their handicraft made with great care and dedication. \nAn important aspect of the exhibition is the fact that works by the craftspeople honoured in each edition of the Festa de la Ceràmica are retained. \nIn this section\, the outstanding pieces in the honoured artisan’s career\, ones that highlight the ceramic technique that best characterises them\, are put on display. \nThis activity also entails drawing up a brochure with the particulars of all the participants and which dedicates space to the honoured craftspeople. The brochure is likewise a means of promotion as it is available in the MUMAF exhibition hall as well as in the Tourist Information Office.

SUMMARY:Five countries one vision- cinco países una visión
DESCRIPTION:An extraordinary exhibition of contemporary lustreware was held in the Ceramista Gimeno Hall in Manises from 12 July to 9 August 2019. \nThe artists\, from five very different countries like Iran\, Italy\, the United Kingdom\, Australia and Spain\, displayed a complete selection of pieces made using this ancient technique. \nLustreware is a ceramic technique that came into being 13 centuries ago in the heart of the Islamic world. Starting in Mesopotamia\, Syria and Egypt\, the innovative lustreware technique followed the expansion of the Arab world across the Maghreb to Spain and\, later on\, to Italy. In the latter half of the nineteenth century\, it spread to England and then to the rest of Europe. \nThe prestige of the ceramic artists participating\, Abbas Akbari (Kashan\, Iran)\, Arturo Mora Benavent (Manises\, Spain)\, Giampietro Rampini (Gubbio\, Italy)\, Jonathan Chiswell Jones (Hankham\, UK)\, John Kuczwal (Wollongong\, Australia)\, and guest Joan Carrillo (Catalonia\, Spain)\, ensured that Manises was a culture centre for artists and lovers of ceramics in Europe for a few days. \n \nThe inauguration of the event included a performance by musicians Nora Pastor (singer)\, Eduard Navarro (duduk\, moraharpa\, paku and bagpipe) and Abbas Akbari (soor)\, who presented a show of medieval music with the following songs:\n1- La Dama d’Aragó. Duduk\n2- Cantiga de Santa Maria n° 42. Medieval gittern.\n3- Reis Glorios. Bagpipe.\n4- Mareta. Duduk.\n5- Traditional Swedish song. Moraharpa.

SUMMARY:“Festa i Cavalcada de la Ceràmica” Drawing Competition
DESCRIPTION:This competition aims at engaging local school children who are asked to give their view of the Festa i Cavalcada de la Ceràmica (Ceramics Festival and Parade). \nThere already have been fourteen editions of this competition which seeks to remind school children of Manises’ association with ceramics and is particularly interested in highlighting these two events which are evidence of the fact. \nThe drawings are made by school children from 1st to 6th class in primary school in Manises. The children are offered the chance to attend a day’s training\, given by a tourist guide from Manises\, a few months before the competition terms of reference are published. \nOnce all the drawings in each edition have been handed in\, a jury made up of ceramists and representatives of institutions and collaborating businesses\, deliberates and awards the approximately 64 winners. \nNonetheless\, all the participants are usually rewarded with a “Festa de la Ceràmica” tee shirt. \nThe award winners are invited to the opening of an exhibition of the drawings which is held in the MUMAF exhibition hall\, with the drawings on display until the end of the same month. \nFollowing the exhibition\, the prize-giving ceremony is held in the “Parc Els Filtres”.

SUMMARY:Manises and Paterna Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Although the initial plan for the exhibition\, which opened on 19 October 2018\, within the framework of the programme for the MCM’s 50th anniversary\, was for it to run for a period of six months\, it was extended until the 15 November 2019 due to the high attendance figures. \nIn order to hold the exhibition\, the Ceramics Museum of Paterna temporarily gave up a part of its holdings and its director Ernesto Manzanedo also provided his assistance. \nA total of 150 objects\, belonging to both the Manises Ceramics Museum and the Paterna Museum were put on display. The presentation was carefully designed to highlight the similarities of the ceramics of these neighbouring towns in their first stages of production: manufacturing processes\, formal aspects and decorative element\, and\, thus\, demonstrate their continuing connection with the production of Valencian crockery.

SUMMARY:Filtros y Sinaís Exhibiton
DESCRIPTION:The “Filtros y sinaís” exhibition was held in the MCM from 13 July to 31 December 2018. \nThe activity entailed a small sample of ceramic objects kept by the city’s residents; without whose involvement the exhibition would not have taken place. \nThe items selected for the exhibition took us back to the first third of the twentieth century and threw light on Manises’ most unusual productions\, as well as the historical context surrounding their use: scientific developments\, trends in hygiene\, healthy life practices\, domestic habits\, etc. \nA catalogue was drawn up for the activity and included data on their origin\, use and manufacture\, together with bibliography and the sources consulted. \nDownload exhibition catalog\nWatch video

SUMMARY:National Lottery Draw\, Manises
DESCRIPTION:10 June 2017 was a very special day for Manises thanks to the Spanish Lottery Draw which was held in the Plaza Rafael Atard\, with thousands of people from Manises and many towns from the region of L’Horta attending. The draw was possible thanks to the collaboration of the Lotería Manises administration. \nThe Department of Tourism was in charge of organising the draw which was highly popular with residents of Manises. Moreover\, it was aimed at getting more exposure for the city as a tourist destination\, even though it already had a differential value. On that day\, it was showcased to a large number of Spanish households. \nCertainly\, the most far-reaching publicity was that resulting from the draw tickets. All the tickets that went on sale for this draw carried the image of an emblematic building in Manises\, the “El Arte” building\, the façade of the Former J.B. Huerta Aviño Ceramics Factory in Manises. These tickets were sold in Spain’s 4\,000 lottery administrations. \nIt was the first time that Manises hosted a Spanish Lottery Draw. Although the State Lottery holds eight to ten draws in different locations throughout Spain\, many cities apply to the National Lottery and Betting (SELAE)\, and very few are selected. \nThe posters drawn up the State Lottery to promote the draw were on display in the 4\,000 lottery administrations and the 6\,000 mixed points of sale in the State Lottery sales network. \nAt the end of the draw\, the State Lottery gave a donation of 4\,000 euros to Cáritas Manises. The event was attended by the children of the Fallas de Manises\, and the act was rounded off with the Manises dance group Repicó and their rendering of local folklore. \nLikewise involved in the event were the Comparsa Els Boïl\, ASCOMA\, the Mercado de los Pinos\, Manises and\, of course\, the lottery administration of Manises.
